The yatra starts at Yamunotri, 3,293 meters above sea level. A picturesque 6-kilometer hike from Janki Chatti leads to the temple, home to the Yamuna River and Goddess Yamuna. The Surya Kund thermal springs here are thought to offer therapeutic properties.
